Brigid's Fire: Ancestral Healing, Ancestral Wisdom, Our Relationship with Mother Nature
Saturday: 1:30-4p
An herbalist’s relationship with Nature, and an understanding of how she heals, is as important as their knowledge of the properties of herbs. Represented in the Celtic holiday of Imbolc, or St. Brigid’s Day, are rituals centered on the element of fire. This fire is said to reside in the head and is our true inspiration, our connection to the great intelligence of life within us and surrounding us.
Although much has changed in the composition of cultures across the Earth over time, the ancestral wisdom still lives within the springs, the forested hills, the canyons, the seashore. The elements are very much alive within us and all around us. Integrating this perspective in our work with plants for healing opens up new and vast possibilities that the rational realm cannot contain nor fathom.
Surrendering to Brigid’s Fire is to surrender to something greater than ourself, yet intrinsically part of ourself. A wisdom which can guide us along our journey through healing, through nature, throughout all of life.
Plant Energetics: Cultivating the Feeling Sense
Sunday: 9:30a-12p
Slowly opening up our senses to what the plants have to offer places us onto the fast track to learning. Working with plant energetics is a practice in deeply engaging our senses. To implement the theoretical framework of plant energetics requires that our knowledge be grounded in experience - and we are made to experience the world around us through our senses. Because plants exist as responsive beings to their surroundings, they call upon us to become more fluid within the present moment with our awareness of all that we engage with.
This class will explore the complexity of plant energetics, as they’re called, through the experiential journey of organoleptic testing (taste, smell, touch, imagery) as we taste plants, tinctures, and teas… while interweaving our contextual awareness of ourselves within the place we find ourselves.
Weaving together the trinity of person, place, and plant we can arrive at a truly holistic perspective.
