with herbalist & forager, John Slattery

Saturday, September 16, 2017

8-11a

The fruit of the prickly pear cactus is a delicious and locally abundant naturally-occurring food and medicine. In this introductory class to working with prickly pear as food and medicine we’ll spend some time with the cactus, gather some fresh prickly pears, and experience the ease of processing prickly pear fruit. We’ll create and sample some delicious prickly pear drinks while we discuss the vast array of healing qualities possessed by the prickly pear cactus.

All participants will leave with a clear understanding of how to process prickly pear fruit for juice, and a deeper appreciation for all the medicinal applications of prickly pear from first-aid to chronic complaints.

All participants should bring appropriate sun protection, ample water to drink, and comfortable footwear for exploring the desert. A notebook and camera are suggested, but not required for this class.
